| Q1.What's the difference between a long oligo and a synthetic gene? |
| A gene has a length of 200 - 1000 bp or longer, an oligo has a length of <200 bp. Oligos are not cloned into a vector. But otherwise, they are produced using the same principle as for our synthetic genes. |
| Q2.Can I use the same synthetic gene in two different organisms? |
| Yes, you can use a mixed codon table computed from the codon usage tables of the two organisms. Codon usage adjustments are very easy using fully synthetic genes. |
| Q3.What accuracy does Generay guarantee? |
| Synthetic genes will be confirmed base-by-base using automated bi-directional fluorescent DNA sequencing, and we guarantee 100% match with your requested sequences. |
| Q4.Is a high GC content a problem? |
| Generally speaking - no. Our method is very reliable across a large range of AT to GC ratios. We have already synthesized genes with a GC content of over 85% sucessfully. If, however, your gene has a high GC content of >65%, and additional critical features such as many repetitive elements, you should contact our support team prior to ordering a gene. |

| Q5.How long do I have to wait for an Generay gene? |
| After we have received your order, we will send you a confirmation. As soon as you have given clearance for the synthesis, we will begin. From the time of receiving your signed clearance, the estimated delivery time is 4 weeks for the cloned gene (of up to 1000 bp), and 3 weeks for the ligation product. For genes longer than 1000 bp, the delivery time will be prolonged by approximately 2 additional weeks for each extra kbp. If a sequence is particularly complicated or very long, the synthesis might take considerably longer. In such a case, we will discuss the delivery time with you ahead of accepting the order. |
| Q6.How much does it cost? |
| We would be happy to send you an individual price quote on the basis of your gene or protein sequence. |
| Q7.What maximum length can Generay synthesize? |
| Our gene synthesis method has no theoretical limits. Even genes of up to 20,000 bp can be assembled in a reasonable time frame. Longer genes are certainly possible, but require extra planning and have longer turnover times. |
| Q8.What vectors can be used to clone the gene? |
| In general, any vector can be used. We clone the genes into a standard vector by default. If you want a gene cloned into a custom vector, please contact us . Depending on the additional effort, custom vectors can create additional costs. |
| Q9.How about data security? Is there a risk of my sequence being disclosed to a third party? |
| We guarantee absolute discretion. No information provided by you, nor the sequence of your gene, will be disclosed to a third party. We will use this information only to synthesize the gene and deliver it to you. |
| Q10. How do I pay for a synthetic gene, and when? |
| A detailed invoice will be enclosed with your gene. Payment is due upon rec eipt of the complete gene with the correct sequence. Payment can be made through international wire transfer, or by cheque. |
